Keeping up with the Kamai girls!!
All about Nia & Leia
March, March, March...
Wednesday, March 18, 2009 2:07 PM
Well February came and went and the girls are getting crazier by the minute. JK! Butch's (Kevin) parents from Honolulu came to visit us. They were here for almost 3 weeks. We really didn't get to take them any where to exciting. The weather was pretty crappy and toting around a 3 month old is not so easy. All in all though we had fun with them & they sure spoiled the girls. Nia got every toy she picked out in the stores we went to & Leia was carried around all day by her grandma Joy. We certainly miss them, it's always nice having a lot of people around, but it's also nice to get back to "normal". Of course after his parents left, Butch was really sad and started talking about moving back to Hawai'i, he even went as far as filling out some applications to work over there. I really wouldn't mind living there or raising the girls there, but I know we would REALLY miss all of our family/friends out here. We'll see...
As for the girls, they never fail to amaze me. Nia is more talkative then ever and even has some attitude (wonder where she got that from). She's doing well in school. In April I think we will have her start doing 2 day full days.(thanks to Grandpa Dave) She's a little smartie-pants...she already knows how to spell/write her name. Her imagination is growing wilder every day. I find her talking to herself sometimes or even making up silly songs. The other day she was running from grandma Lorna's apt. to ours and I told her to stop running, her reply was " Mom, I have to run, I have lots of energRy!" Hilarious!
Leia is just the best baby in the world. Except when she's screaming her head off, but we love her still. She is growing like crazy. She has already outgrown all of her 3month old clothes..so now we're onto 6-9month. Her eyes are still the most beautiful color. I really hope they don't change. Her skin is a lot fairer than Nia's was. By the end of this month she should be able to start eating baby cereal, that is if she can sit up by herself. So i've been letting her do tummy time a lot more now, just to help strengthen her neck muscles. She's also been laughing a lot. Well, she has to be in the right mood..but it's the cutest thing ever. She really is the sweetest thing...

Dr. appt.
Thursday, February 12, 2009 4:55 PM
This morning the girls had appointments to see their doctor, Dr. Vallero. Nia for her 3 year check up and Leia for her 2 month. They both are doing extremely well. Nia weighs 29lbs and is 36 inches long. Dr. Vallero checked Nia's eyes, ears, nose, mouth, reflex and heart and everything was normal. She also had her draw a circle, an X and a line which she did & also had to show off that she could write her name. :) Then she had Nia jump and hop on 1 foot. Nia enjoys going to Dr. appts. although when we get there she is very quiet and doesn't say much. I think she likes going because she gets stickers at the end and if the Dr. doesn't offer her one, she knows where to go to get one. As for Leia she is now 12lbs 13oz. and is 23 1/2 inches long. The Dr. checked her heart, eyes, ears, nose joints and her head. Her head still lags a little, she said that by 4 months her head should be more stable. The Dr. is still impressed that her eyes haven't changed color yet and we are hoping that they don't either. They are a blueish gray color, not too sure how she got them (if they are her permanent color). It could be from the Irish in me or the German in Kevin. I also asked the Dr. about her not taking the bottle. She said that Leia would more likely take it from someone other than me and that it would be best for me to be out of the house when doing so (i guess she can sense that I'm around) and to just keep trying. Leia also had to get her immunizations today she got 3 shots in the leg and 1 which they administered orally. Poor thing screamed when they poked her little thigh with those needles. But was all better once I held her. I am so thankful to have 2 very healthy beautiful little girls.
they keep growing...

Tomorrow Leia will be 2 months old. It's amazing how much they change in just a couple months. She has definitely filled out and is a lot more calm then when she was first born. I think she weighs about 12 pounds now. She is growing out of her clothes very fast. She is also cooing and smiling more. We are still having a hard time trying to feed her a bottle. I probably need to be more consistent in trying, but I don't like to waste the breastmilk (which can be a hassle to pump). Hopefully soon she will be able to take a bottle and I won't have to rush back to feed her when I am out. Although I did read it's okay for babies to go without eating for long periods of time, but I find that to be cruel. But she is doing well & her eyes have yet to change color. They are still a greyish blue. I'm a bit bias but I do believe she is one of the cutest babies i've ever seen. ;)
As for Nia, she's such a big girl now. I took her to a bday party last night at one of the house bounce house places and she climbed up the big inflatable slide and went down all by herself. I was very proud of her. Little things like that make me realize that she is no longer a helpless baby girl. :( She is still very shy and takes awhile to get her talking, but when she does she is so funny. Nia is such a good big sister. She takes her big sister role very seriously and is starting to ease up on her jealous tendencies. I can't wait for the two of them to start playing together.

Finally...
Wednesday, January 14, 2009 3:33 PM
a chance to update this site. Leia is asleep and Nia is watching t.v.
The last entry was right before Nia's 3rd bday. She had a Dora the Explorer themed bday party and had a good time celebrating with family and a few close friends. Right after the party she wanted to play with all her presents. We settled with a game of Dora chutes and ladders. I still can't believe my baby girl is 3 years old. She's so clever and knows exactly what she wants and how she wants things done, yet she's still very timid and shy at first. Get her warmed up and she's out of control! I love her little voice and the funny things that come out of her mouth. Being 3 is such an awesome age.
As for Leia she is about a month and a half old now. Her looks have changed a lot and she's definitely filled out. She now weighs a good 12 pounds. Thankfully she knows when its day and when it's night. She's a pretty good sleeper, waking up every 3-4 hours at night. She's starting to coo and smile a lot more. She loves to be held and enjoys falling asleep to music. We can't wait til she starts becoming more active and it will be very interesting to see how Nia & her will interact. Right now there is a little bit of jealousy on Nia's part, but she LOVES her baby Leia.
Here are some pictures from the past month's activities!! Hope everyone had a good Christmas and have a Happy New Year!!

big sister...
Monday, December 08, 2008 1:35 PM
Being a big sister has it's ups and downs. I don't like it when everyone tells me to be careful of the baby or to stop bothering her. I just love her soo much and want to show her. I haven't been the best at listening lately and have gotten into quite a bit of trouble. I do help out when I feel like it, but mostly I just want to play with Mommy and Daddy. It's hard though, when Mommy is taking care of the baby and daddy is cleaning or is tired. At least daddy is off for a week and I get to go to the stores with him and he takes me out to do big girl things. But he gets frustrated sometimes because I like to run off and I don't listen when we go out. Hopefully we will all adjust to our new situation soon and get better at our roles in the family, maybe I will stop acting up. :P ( but i'm a kid and that's what i do best)
As for school, mommy is thinking about putting me in for full days. I've been telling her that I want to take naps at school so maybe I will get to stay all day instead of leaving after lunch. I'm so excited that my birthday is coming up and Christmas too. I am having a Dora the explorer bday party and my lolo is buying me a Dora cake. I can't wait for my party. I hope everyone can make it.
She's here.....

Hello everyone. We just want to introduce the newest member of our family Leia Alexis Ka'iulani Tan Kamai. She was born at Sutter Davis Hospital @ 9:20 am, weighing 7lbs, 6oz and is 20 inches long. She looks a lot like her big sister Nia, but just a lot smaller in size then Nia was when she was born. Leia came out with some pretty loud cries. We thought, "oh no, we've got ourselves a crier." luckily though, since we've been home she's been pretty good. Being at the hospital is a different story, she would turn bright red and scream at the top of her lungs if she didn't get what she wanted right away. Everyone is adjusting well. I am still recovering from the surgery, but am feeling pretty good. ( thank goodness for pain medication) Leia is doing what babies do best, sleep, eat, poop and pee. The Dr. who checked her out said she is very healthy and saw no problems with her. Nia is still adjusting to being a big sister. She loves her baby Leia so much and smothers her with hugs and kisses. Although, she hasn't been wanting to stay home with us since we've been back from the hospital. She has been staying with Grandma the past few days. We're thinking she likes it there because she gets ALL grandma's attention, but we do miss having her around and hope she comes back to us soon. Kevin is doing his fatherly duties, you know, doing everything i tell him to do. :) Thank you to everyone who came to visit us and wished us well. We appreciate all of you and all that you do for us.
If you are wondering how we came up with her name here is the story:
We didn't decide on her full name until the last day we were there.
first name: Leia, pretty much the only name kevin and i could agree on. he really wanted a name with "Lei" in it and the only one i liked was Leia.
first middle name: Alexis, this came at the last minute, we chose it because Nia has my middle name Marie and we always said if we had a boy his middle name would be the same as Kevin's, which is Alexander. since, we didn't have a boy and Leia most likely is going to be our last child, we decided to give her the name Alexis.
second middle name: Ka'iulani, it is a hawaiian tradition to give your child a hawaiian name. This particular name means, "the highest point in heaven", "the royal sacred one", it was also the name of the last crowned princess of hawai'i. it is pronouned, ka-ee-oo-la-nee.

i want a "pu-prise"
Saturday, November 15, 2008 10:48 AM
Mommy made the mistake of getting me to do something by telling me she would give me a surprise after. :) So now if she asks me to do something or even out of nowhere I will just ask her to give me a "pu-prise". I usually whine for a good ten minutes about getting a "pu-prise" and then she tries to distract me by letting me do something else. she's pretty sneaky like that sometimes. Daddy on the other hand ALWAYS gives in, even when he is very upset with me. I go to him when mommy says "NO". I have it all planned out! I might be little, but I am very smart.
Last night I got to play with my Lolo. Sometimes he comes and visits me while he's on his lunch break. I love spending time with him. He makes me laugh and plays silly games with me. When the weather is nice we take a short walk to the corner store and he buys me candy and an icee and he gets himself a coke ( his favorite drink). He's the best.
Lately I've been really emotional. My teacher even noticed this on Thursday and told my dad. I cried a few times that day. I think I'm starting to feel a big change is about to come. I know I won't be the only kid in the house anymore. I am excited to have a little sister but I know it will be a hard adjustment for me. As long as she knows that I'm bigger and in charge then we won't have any problems. :)At least I will have someone to play with.
That's all for now....stay tuned. I will be posting my Christmas wish list and Birthday wish list on here!!!

Potty time
Thursday, November 06, 2008 7:25 PM
I have been potty trained since March, but I have always needed help. Now I think i'm old enough to do it on my own. Last night I told Mommy I had to use the bathroom and I told her to close the door. As she was closing it, she said to call her when I was done, so she could help me. Well, I didn't because I'm getting older now and I can do things on my own. Plus I am going to school now so I have to learn to be more independent. So I guess I was taking long and daddy came in to check on me, but i was already done. He called mommy to look at me and they started laughing because apparently my pants were on the wrong way and I put my panties on top of my pants. :P I guess I still need some help with using the bathroom. At least I'm trying!! Here's a clip of what I do when i'm on the toilet..Mommy caught me singing.

Merryhill Preschool
Tuesday, November 04, 2008 1:35 PM
So far I have completed my first "month" of preschool. I only go 2 days a week and I seem to enjoy it. I get to play outside with all of my friends, do circle time, read books and do many projects. I love eating lunch there. I sometimes have 2-3 servings of the meals they have. I am also starting to warm up to my teachers and friends. At first I was very quiet and shy, now I smile, wave and play with everyone. Maybe when my little sister is born I will get to go to school more often, but for now I enjoy the time i'm there.
( my first day of school)---------------------------------->
Welcome to our world!

I'm trying this blogging thing out again, but this time it will be about my baby girls, Nia and Leia. Nia will be turning 3 on Dec. 19th and Leia will be coming into this world on Nov. 26th, 2008. We are very excited to add another little girl to our family and Nia is definitely thrilled to be a big sister. We can't wait to see what the future has in store for our family and hope that you enjoy our updates as we go along.
